Chatsworth, CA – Chatsworth, CA – Looking to expand its lineup of innovative presses, like their custom-configured 8-color Komori, Impress Communications has brought one of the first iGen 5 digital presses to Southern California. The iGen5 builds upon the many digital breakthroughs Xerox has pioneered since the launch of the iGen platform in 2002.
Most significantly in the case of Impress, the iGen 5 introduces heavier paper stock options of up to 24 pt., which creates the opportunity for short-run packaging jobs that were previously only possible on an offset press. Beyond these new paper weights, the iGen 5 also brings with it an increased sheet size capability of 14 x 26 inches and new paper handling configurations.
“The iGen 5’s new features open up a world of packaging and presentation collateral that can be produced for short-run or special edition projects, which simply don’t fit the volume demands of an offset run, and this will be invaluable to our customers,” says Impress Communications Executive Director, Paul Marino.
Additionally, the iGen 5 debuts exciting possibilities with its new offset-like inks, which produce a matte finish that’s more comparable to traditional printing than the waxy look and feel of most other digital presses. These new matte finish inks can also be combined with Xerox’s specialty clear coating to produce results that rival the kind of spot varnish effect you can only get with an offset press.
“The possibilities are endless for how we can use the iGen 5 in support of our customers, and on projects of every size. We’re excited to bring this new capability to our clients, and the region as a whole,” adds Marino. “We may even begin using the iGen to replace some of our prototyping and packaging bluelines – it just gives us so many options.”
The iGen 5 joins Impress’ other digital press, a Xerox Color 800, making for a wide-ranging digital production capability that complements their traditional offset business.
